Easing the burden for William's family

For the past eight years, William’s parents, Mark and Donna from South Australia, have followed the same routine.

By 8am, they would have their two sons William and Jake, fed, dressed and ready to go to school.

As Jake jumped into the car, Donna would park William’s electric scooter while Mark dragged the wooden ramp from their garage onto the driveway. Together they would shift it into the right place, ensuring it lined up correctly for the scooter to squeeze through the space in the door. They would help William roll up the ramp, fix him in his seat and buckle up.

Once William was settled, Mark and Donna would then lift the ramp together and slowly edge it into the boot of their van, ensuring they didn’t scrape the roof or sides of the car. Sometimes the weight was just too much and Donna asked Jake to help. The whole exercise could take more than 20 minutes, assuming everything went smoothly.

The family would then drive to school, and go through the process again.

Now, thanks to you, the family is enjoying a whole new routine.

William’s family, through your support of Cappuccino for a Cause, were given a new hydraulic lifting system to transport William’s scooter to and from school.

The system is installed in their van, making transport to school, along with family outings and adventures, so much easier.

The system has made a massive difference for William’s parents, and their whole family. They can enjoy travelling together without the hassle of the heavy ramp.

Previously, Mark and Donna could never have purchased the lifting system, barely managing to keep up the ongoing costs of caring for William’s multiple disabilities.

Your support made a difference in this family.

Thank you for all your involvement in Cappuccino for a Cause and helping to raise $150,000 for Variety, the children’s charity. Stay posted for more updates, as we hand over the Sunshine Coaches and Liberty Swings to families and communities across Australia.
