Golf Day raises $37,000 for Special Olympics

Players attending the Gloria Jean’s Coffees Golf Day didnt realise they'd have the privilege of playing with an Olympic gold medallist.

Steve Robson, who won gold at the 2011 Special Olympics in Athens, took part in the charity event helping raise funds for the Special Olympics.

"On behalf of everyone at Special Olympics, I want to say thank you to Gloria Jean's Coffees for holding a great Golf Day and raising much needed funds," said David Streichler, National Sponsorship & Fundraising Manager, Special Olympics Australia.

Special Olympics athletes were an invaluable part of the day.

On the green, Steve was accompanied by fellow Special Olympics athlete Tom LeRay - Meyer, and at lunch, golfers were treated to a performance by the Special Olympics dance group.

"We are grateful that not only did Gloria Jean's Coffees run a great event, but also enabled these inspirational athletes to take part. I know they thoroughly enjoyed themselves," said David.

The Golf Day raised $37,000 to help the Special Olympics introduce more programs and activities in regions across Australia. The donation will ultimately enable more people with an intellectual disability to take part in the Special Olympics activities, building strong friendships, developing their confidence and achieving their personal best.

Nabi and Angela Saleh, co-founders of Gloria Jean's Coffees, presented the donation to David, National Fundraising Manager and Harry, Special Olympics medallist following their moving presentation to Gloria Jean's Coffees' team members.

Gloria Jean's Coffees is proud to be an ongoing supporter of the Special Olympics and the amazing athletes they support.
